Utilize Garden Brick for the Outdoor Walkway
By | July 1, 2010
You can enjoy a walkway made from garden brick, not just because of the decorative touch it adds to your yard, but because it will help you from having to step in dirt and mud when you walk through your yard. Here’s what you’ll need to know about how to install your own brick walkway.
Building a Level Walkway
You’ll want your walkway to be flat and even. To accomplish this, you can build temporary screed rails that will show where the top surface of your walkway should be. All you have to do is to lay a carpenter’s level across the tops of the two screed rails and note the bubble in the level.
Filling your walkway
By filling the space between your screed rails with sand, you’ll create a base for your bricks.
Laying Your Bricks
You will be better able to lay your bricks in a straight line if you run a string between stakes at the beginning and end of your walkway, then use the string as a guideline to lay your bricks.
Filling the Joints
Once your bricks are laid in place, they will be less likely to shift if you fill the spaces between them with sand. When all bricks are laid, they will be more solid if you wet the sand with a garden hose.
